To begin with, her single-level
accommodations include a well-appointed, three-stateroom layout with a
VIP forward, double berth aft and to port of the VIP, and a master suite
fully aft. The former and latter have en suite heads while a day head
in the saloon serves the double-berth stateroom. All heads feature solid
marble countertops and teak soles. The saloon surprises you with 7'4"
headroom, a dramatic oculus port overhead, and a round shape. This combination
makes for an entertainment area that appears much larger than it is. A
starboard galley is hidden behind varnished teak cabinetry that on first
glance appears to be finely crafted furniture. That is it did until I
raised a hinged cover to reveal a solid-marble countertop housing the
two-burner electric Bosch stovetop and stainless steel sink, opened the
cabinet that contained the standard microwave oven, and discovered the
two beautiful doors that conceal the stainless steel-lined refrigerator/freezer.
More surprises awaited
me topsides. The helm/entertainment area can easily accommodate 10 people.
In addition to the two benchseats to either side, there is a circular
settee aft and to port and another to starboard just behind the helm seat.
The helm offers excellent visibility on all points due to those aforementioned
large windows. Push one button and the instrument pod disappears into
the console; push another and the large overhead opens.
Covering most of the
aft section (except for a two-foot-wide, teak-soled walkway to the swim
platform) is an enormous sunpad that conceals several huge stowage compartments.
The largest compartment opens electrically and holds an 800-pound-capacity
Besenzoni davit and a PWC. Another hatch leads to the engine room, where
de Simoni’s design team took full advantage of the extra room afforded
by the aft engine placement. The result is a workable area for any captain.
I measured 5'10" headroom and enough space to make performing maintenance
on the 3412Es quick and simple.
Corbett and Datson both
made a point of informing me that the Pershing 65 is fully found, and
that options are, well, not an option. "The PWC and a watermaker,
which we have the boat already plumbed for, are about the only extras
I can think of," Corbett said. "Everything you see aboard is
standard."
After my time aboard,
I’d say "everything" includes power, performance, luxury,
and comfort. And after experiencing how well the 65 handled those seas,
it’s not too hard to imagine taking her out for an extended cruising
adventure and going the distance whatever comes her way.
