Furuno
has introduced a slick black box Weatherfax and Navtex receiver that can
send display data to any number of 10.4-inch NavNet devices or PCs on
an Ethernet network. Stored images and text pages can be selected from
thumbnails and even post-processed for the phase and synchronization errors
that can mess up traditional paper printouts.
NavNet
units control data display and the FAX30’s 1,000 channels and scheduling
capabilities via soft keys. PCs exercise the same functions with any Web
browser—there’s no additional software needed. With a suggested
retail price of $995, the FAX30 can reduce the number of visible electronics
on the bridge and the amount of wasted paper. It also hints at the exciting
places Furuno can go with the Ethernet architecture of NavNet.
