Uniden has been busy. This innovative $600 radio features a four-inch, ten-key touchscreen, voice prompts for many functions (plus a built-in manual), and an audio direction finder, as well as more common high-end features like a 30-watt hailer with automated fog signals and Class D DSC. It’s also fully submersible and claims the best possible transceiver performance. Its $300 cousin, the UM625c, is the first VHF with a color screen. Finally, both radios are compatible with up to four $130 second-generation WHAMx4 wireless mics, which purportedly offer all radio functions—including intercom—up to a half-mile apart. Whew.
