Garmin has just introduced
the first fully integrated GPS PDA. While some boaters will be disappointed
that it is not waterproof, few will deny the amazing traveling power Garmin
has squeezed into a stylish five- by three-inch device. The iQue 3600
combines Palm’s latest operating system, a fast DragonBall processor,
and a relatively huge 320- by 480-pixel screen with a WAAS GPS that you
wouldn’t know was there except for the flip-up antenna.
The iQue comes bundled
with highly configurable multicontinent base and street maps. Integration
extends to the address book, where you’ll be able to tap an icon
to locate someone, even initiate turn-by-turn routing. Users should also
be able to easily load and plot on Garmin’s nautical BlueCharts;
in fact, any marine- or other location-aware program for the Palm OS should
run nicely. Suggested retail is $589 complete.
