Okay, I did feel pretty goofy strapping on this fishfinder watch and casting out the “remote sonar sensor,” but darned if it didn’t work pretty well. And isn’t it amazing that Humminbird has managed to squeeze a transducer and a wireless transmitter into a slightly oversize bobber? The 75-foot transmission radius and 100-foot maximum depth may be all you need to look for interesting bottom structure—or watch a fish take a bait—from your anchored boat (or dock). A single button controls fish ID, alarm, and sensitivity; and the teensy bottom graph even scrolls in proportion to reeling speed. The disposable $20 sensor turns on automatically in the water and is purportedly good for 400 hours of use. The “watch” kit shown costs $100; a rod-mounted and a larger mobile display are also available, both with 100-foot range.

Humminbird’s innovation may have uses beyond fishing; I wouldn’t be surprised to see a yacht gunkholing at slow speed with a (goofy-feeling) mate on the bow smartcasting for uncharted dangers.
