If you’re going to navigate with a regular laptop, one key to success is a solid way to position it just right, yet both adjustable for viewing in varying light conditions and secure when the going gets rough. RAM Mount to the rescue. The new high-density plastic tray is spring-loaded and adaptable such that it will tightly grip most any size portable PC. The tray can be stationed anywhere at your helm using RAM’s nearly endless variety of aluminum brackets, swing arms, and ball sockets (which are rubber coated to insulate against vibration). The particular mounting hardware shown (onboard my boat Gizmo) is about $118. The $50 tray can even be accessorized with a gooseneck-style screen stabilizer and a GPS cradle.
