SeaTel
has introduced a slick touchscreen control/display as an option on its
new ‘04 series of stabilized TV antennas. The satellite in use, signal
strength, antenna position, and more are all shown graphically, while
a tiny live TV window lets you see how well a channel is actually being
received. Multiple displays can be networked, and an operator can use
any unit to switch source satellites or otherwise manage the system. Perhaps
best of all, the display can call up extensive electronic and mechanical
diagnostics, which can even be sent to a technician ashore via a network
communications link. The ‘04 series—which comes in 30-, 40-,
and 50-inch dome sizes—is said to deliver greater range and higher
performance with fewer moving parts. New brushless D.C. motors reportedly
respond instantly and noiselessly to vessel motion. Systems start at $14,695,
with the touchscreen option at $3,295.
