Boaters, say hello to Cobra, longtime U.S. manufacturer of walkie talkies, radar detectors, and other popular consumer electronics. The company’s debut VHF line starts with a 2-watt water-resistant handheld that retails for an amazing $80, moves up through full-feature submersible handhelds, and ends with this $210 25/1-watt fixed-mount F75 model that sports most DSC functions. One F75 feature is a detachable noise-canceling microphone/speaker; another is an exceptionally large LCD for a radio this size. Cobra is already thinking of expanding its new marine presence with a radar adetector—meant to avoid collisions, not speeding tickets.
