Nobody
wants to end his or her day on the water with a sore throat from trying
to talk above the babel of whining diesels. And although sound attenuation
has come a long way since the invention of earplugs, anything that keeps
more-than-necessary sound at bay is welcome.
To
help reduce intake noise, Walker Engineering has developed a series of
air filters called Everquiet that can be used on older MAN and MTU engines.
Each filter in the series has a built-in silencer, the technology of which
is being kept under wraps for now but is said to reduce and eliminate
the wince-inducing turbo whine that occurs at certain rpm levels. The
filter also uses a newly designed mounting clamp that puts an end to the
need for a turbo connection hose.
Everquiet
air filters are available through Walker dealers. Pricing information
was not available at presstime.
