Many
boaters today are interested in simplifying their helm stations—in
other words, reducing the number of displays there. That's why Raymarine
developed an entry-level radar/chartplotter that combines two disparate
systems into one display.
The
integrated unit is called the SL72 Plus Raychart, and it comes standard
with a seven-inch monochrome LCD display. The screen’s high contrast
and 320x240 pixel resolution is said to make for easy readability. You
can choose to run either the plotter or radar as a full screen or split
the two screens to view them simultaneously. In split-screen mode, the
plotter and radar are automatically synchronized.
The
plotter works off C-Map NT+ cards, which include port and tide data. In
addition, the plotter can display course up, north up, head up, and MOB
and store up to 1,000 waypoints. Soft buttons at the bottom of the display
make it easy to adjust the screen contrast and brightness, find ship,
switch between plotter and radar settings, and access other functions
of the unit.
The
SL72 Plus Raychart comes with an 18-inch radome that has a range of 24
NM. The unit is available through Raymarine electronics dealers and has
a suggested retail price of $2,575.
