Growing up, I’d
pretty much do anything anyone told me. If my older brother, Paul, told
me to ride my bike off a ten-foot cliff to see if it would hurt, I’d
do it. (In fact, I did, and it hurt!) Consequently, I spent many of my
summer-vacation days wrapped in the uncomfortable blanket of a fiberglass
cast. And since getting a cast wet is a doctor-prescribed no-no, that
always meant no swimming for me.
Enter the XeroSox, a
patented vacuum, watertight seal that the company says “fits snugly
yet gently against your hand or foot and keeps casts or bandages completely
dry in practically any water-based activity.” Swimming with a cast?
What a treat that would have been!
I tried the XeroSox,
and although I had it directly on my skin (as opposed to on a cast), I
doubt I could wear it for an extended swim, as the watertight seal was
too tight. It would do the trick, though, for a refreshing dip in the
pool or quick shower.
The XeroSox comes in
a range of models to accommodate legs and arms of all sizes, and the cost
ranges from $29 to $39.
