Ever
wish you had an extra cleat from which to temporarily hang a fender while
visiting a marina? Or maybe to suspend a bucket from while washing down
the hull? Darby Marine claims its Darby Suction Cleat can take care of
these nautical needs and more. It measures 121⁄2 inches long and
has a molded-in, six-and-a-half-inch cleat on the handle.
I put the suction cleat
through its paces while visiting a friend’s boat and found it easily
provided an extra tie-off for the tender and a temporary handhold, besides
fulfilling the aforementioned additional uses. All I had to do was merely
press the four-and-a-half-inch suction cups firmly on a clean, flat, dry,
nonporous surface and activate the levers. While I didn’t do any
weight-testing other than lifting a large engine hatch, the company claims
the cleat can easily lift a minimum of 100 pounds when it is attached
to a smooth surface.
At a suggested list
price of $59, the Darby Suction Cleat is a handy thing to have aboard.—K.K.
