I’m
a clean freak, no doubt about it. Give me a deck brush, a five-gallon
bucket of suds, and a radio blaring NPR, and I’ll make a grubby boat
spotless in a happy hurry. Good cleaning products help, of course, and
I’ve just found another I like—Yacht Brite’s Serious Shine.
Billed as a cleaner and a polish, it satisfied me on both scores, although
I found it worked best when I removed any serious dirt prior to application.
Also, while the product adds a UV-protective, water-repellant sheen to
fiberglass (in much the same way Rain-Ex does, I’d say), it doesn’t
remove oxidation haze and buildup typical of older fiberglass, so compound
first for the best results. One caveat: Don’t use it on surfaces
you’ll be walking or standing on later; the lovely look Serious Shine
imparts is pretty slippery.—Capt. Bill Pike
