Quite
often boat exteriors are a combat zone of dirt, grime, and grit stains
that result in dulling oxidation. While it often seems that all these
nefarious attackers gang up on us en masse, I’ve found a cleaning
aid that promises to level the field of battle.
Yacht
Brite’s Buff Magic is a nonabrasive fiberglass and gelcoat reconditioning
and deoxidizing cream that can be buffed out by machine or hand. I sent
out several 22-ounce cans of the product to our testers—including
our own Capt. Patrick Sciacca—and received positive feedback.
Sciacca
used Buff Magic on his 31-foot Ocean Master while preparing her for launching
after being on the hard all winter. He reports that it is easy to apply
and removes black streaks and other stains that accumulated during layover.
Yacht
Brite also recommends Buff Magic for polishing metal and to remove scratches
on Plexiglas and isinglass.
Buff
Magic is available from several vendors, including Bass Pro Shops, Overtons,
and Defender. A 22-ounce can retails for around $20 and is enough to buff
out a 40-foot boat. You can also order it directly at www.yachtbrite.com
or call Yacht Brite at (800) 643-2316. —K.K.
