Garmin,
a developer and manufacturer of navigation equipment, has reportedly paid
$5 million to acquire the California-based research and development company
Sequoia Instruments. Garmin’s media relations specialist Pete Brumbaugh
says the immediate impact of Sequoia’s GPS Air Data systems and
Attitude Heading Systems will be seen in Garmin’s integrated aircraft
cockpit, but added that Garmin is exploring where the technology might
be applied in the marine business. ...Navionics is expanding its
horizons with a recently announced alliance with SevenCs. The union
brings Navionics, which has been producing electronic charts for pleasureboaters
for nearly two decades, into the commercial shipping electronic chart
market. SevenCs will merge its technology and experience in manufacturing
commercial charts with Navionics large database. Worldwide coverage with
the new charts is expected sometime this year. —Capt.
