World’s 100 Largest Yachts 2008 #3: Octopus
By Diane M. Byrne
#3: OCTOPUS—414'0"
Leave it to The New York Times to refer to this yacht as "relatively miniscule." In a wide-ranging article that ran last March, the paper compared Octopus to the super-secret project code-named Eclipse, said to be more than 530 feet long (and which won't be delivered for a while yet). Do you think Octopus' owner, Paul Allen, was crushed? Probably not; the investor/philanthropist/cofounder of Microsoft was probably too busy having fun in Tahiti, as that's where his yacht was spotted around the same time. She moved on to the South of France in springtime, where the rumor mill went into overdrive with word that actors Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie (a.k.a. Brangelina) would be married aboard.
