Fountaine Pajot 44 MY

Running the Fountaine Pajot 44 MY off Majorca proved to be a one-of-a-kind experience.

Fountaine Pajot 44 MY

Mallorca, an island off the coast of Spain is one of Europe’s premier yachting destinations.

Fountaine Pajot 44 MY

Blending modern amenities, with historic European charm it’s clear why this place is so popular.

Fountaine Pajot 44 MY

Home to superyachts and small sailboats, Mallorca’s history and culture is tied to the sea.

Fountaine Pajot 44 MY

I first met the 44 at the Dusseldorf boat show where I remember thinking she was a stylish cat.
Seeing her in the water only enhanced that impression.

Surprisingly wide side decks allow you to carry supplies, whether that be a fender or plate of appetizers, up to the bow.

Beefy hardware, like this anchor tackle, speaks to the serious construction of the 44.

The standout feature of the 44t might just be that she’s powered by Volvo Penta IPS. Joystick control is something many boaters will appreciate.

Step into the saloon and make a left to head down into the private, full-length master suite.

There you’ll find an athwartships berth facing generous-sized windows.

The level of fit and finish on the 44 MY is exceptional.

Oversized–and heavy–hatches provide impressive access to the IPS 600s.
Access to service points on both sides of the engines is an easy chore.

Now the real question: How did she perform?

Fountaine Pajot 44 MY

Spooling up the engines, with the rest of the crew relaxing throughout the 44, she easily climbed to 25 knots, with no discernable speed hump when getting on plane.

Turns were sharp and smooth. There was little in the way of chop during the test and the 44 leaves such a small wake, running the boat in circles to try and simulate some sort of sea conditions didn’t work well. Still, I could tell this boat boasts solid construction.

And as for those pods, with 20 knots of wind they admirable moved the boat anywhere you wanted it. The marriage between multihulls and IPS is a beautiful one.

Fountaine Pajot 44 MY

Mallorca seems to blend tradition and luxury everywhere you look.
The same can be said for the Fountaine Pajot 44 MY.
Stay tuned for the full review in an upcoming issue.

When not chasing stories for Power & Motoryacht magazine he can be found cruising Long Island Sound with his wife, sons, and faithful (furry) first mate Salty.
