When it comes to sportfishing, it’s really hard to beat a good, custom boat. For many anglers, a custom vessel is a mark that “Hey, I’ve been doing this for a while, and I know exactly what I want and need.” It’s a pretty freakin’ macho concept when you think about it. And Spencer Yachts, the North Carolina-based outfit that’s been turning out rough, rugged, and ready sportfishers since 1996, is one of the best.
Their newest project, the 57 powered with IPS pods matched to twin 900-horsepower Volvo D13s, showcases every one of these characteristics. She features an aggressively raked sheerline, a darkly tinted visor, and an outsized cockpit. The cockpit boasts two-tiered mezzanine seating that conceals, among other goodies, an insulated drink box, a refrigerator/freezer, and an Eskimo ice dump. Abaft that, a fighting chair can be installed to help you reel in the whoppers.
Down below the 57 has an athwartship, en suite master forward, an amidship VIP, and a smaller guest cabin to port. The VIP and guest share a head that is to starboard, just forward of the stairs leading down from the saloon.

That saloon should be an ideal place to relax on the way out to the fishing grounds, or back at the docks, since it has a large L-shaped settee aft and to port, a galley with a peninsula bar, and additional seating to starboard. With these attributes plus many others, the 57 IPS from Spencer should make her owner very happy. And if she doesn’t he’s got nobody to blame, except for maybe himself.
