If you’re into vintage boats and happen to be in the vicinity of Linn Creek, Missouri near Lake of the Ozarks, (or if you want to bid online) you might want to check out the estate auction of a talented boat mechanic and collector named Lou Danley. Mr. Danley passed away in 2022 and his collection of boats, motors, parts and ephemera (check the Johnson outboards wall clock) was gathered over a lifetime. The auction will feature over 50 vintage outboard motors; Eltos, Mercurys, Johnson Sea Horses, Evinrudes and Sea Kings—and probably enough hardware to start your own antique outboard business. There will be over 50 rod and reel sets, all manner of assorted tackle along with boxes of antique boat toys—including a tiny Swank electric display motor (we’ve never seen one of these). Of serious interest is a collection of a half dozen hand-built wood hydroplane boats—some look to be in very good condition. There’s also a collection of boating magazines, so if someone goes and finds a trove of old Power & Motoryachts, please let us know. The auction will be held July 30, 2025 at 9:30AM and hopefully Lou will be looking down on it with Carl Kiekhaefer and Ole Evinrude.
