#2: Octopus—414’0″

Throw a dart at any coastline around the world, and chances are that Octopus has been there. Arguably the most active private cruiser in the world, the yacht has been journeying practically nonstop since launch. Just this year alone she’s cruised from Jamaica to Barbados and then on to Panama, Tahiti, Papua New Guinea, Australia, South Africa, Zanzibar, and the Seychelles. Naturally, a flurry of e-mailing, photographing, phoning, and even text messaging has resulted wherever she’s gone, but she’s also caught the eye of professional writers and photographers.

In fact, a journalist Down Under at the Sydney Morning Herald reported that the yacht “picked up six tonnes of fresh meat during its time in Darwin.” While the reported 60-person crew and the various guests that owner (and Microsoft cofounder) Paul Allen welcomed aboard would undoubtedly need a good deal of food, 12,000 pounds of porterhouses and cold cuts sounds like a wee bit of an exaggeration to us.
