British tabloids had a field day last summer writing headlines for stories claiming Roman Abramovich (see Pelorus, no. 9, and Ecstasea, no. 24) gave this yacht to Eugene Shvidler, an American who’s a close friend and business associate. One such headline: “Yacht a Lot I Got!” Registration documents we’ve seen do reflect a change in ownership (under a corporation’s name, of course, as these yachts are never registered under a person’s name), so the tales could be true. Hope Shvidler’s enjoying her armada of toys, including a Sunseeker named Sirius A.

FAST FACTS

When one of the richest men in the world owns one of the largest yachts in world, no one would expect his tenders to be anything less than jaw dropping. Bellatrix, a 74-foot sailing yacht, was constructed with a honeycomb foam composite for strength and to save weight. Cherry-veneer interior paneling preserved the owner’s taste for luxurious aesthetics. Another one of Le Grand Bleu‘s tenders, Sirius A, a 67-foot Sunseeker, has three staterooms for weekend jaunts or in the unlikely event they run out of room on the yacht.—Liz Pasch
