Developments in Solid-State Radar
Simrad says its Halo product-test team put the boat next to a row of pilings
with dual ranges of 64 nautical miles and 300 feet.
Simrad says the Halo’s quick updates and a track function
allowed the test team to grab this image of jet skis around the test boat.
Simrad says the Halo system can also be tuned for tracking storms, as shown in this overlay image.
Furuno’s FAR-3000 solid-state radar has recently become available. Called “chart radar,” the FAR-3000
provides excellent situational awareness and is geared to commercial vessels, according to Furuno.

Simrad’s Halo line of radars is available in 3-, 4-, and 6-foot sizes, with prices from $4,500 to $5,500.
