Great Loop Speed Record | Full Peter Hajas Interview

Around The Great Loop in 12 Days, 18 Hours, and 10 Minutes

Setting out with no real open-water or cruising experience to speak of, 65-year-old Peter Hajas along with his two sons, Peter Jr. (35), Eric (32), and his longtime offroad racing partner Kevin Selchow (62) shattered the Great Loop speed record aboard Lady Lor, a 1,050-horsepower-equipped Contender 40 Express and minimal provisions.

We caught up with Hajas Sr. who was back home in Islamorada and seeing Lady Lor through some much-needed time in the shop after a Mississippi River grounding, catching a log in her middle engine’s prop that ultimately siezed its lower unit, and ultimately limping the last 700 miles to finish the Loop under two-thirds power. All things considered, that’s not bad for a crew with no real requisite experience. Join us as we find out how and why Hajas Sr. and crew set out on such an ambitious challenge and ask what’s next for Lady Lor and her intrepid skipper.
