We’ve been especially interested in the Great Loop since we first met millennial cruisers Tom DeBacco and Kate Payne a little over a year ago. Refusing to put their life on hold, they set out to see the country from their Bavaria 44 Sport Yacht. Seeing their photos and adventures on social media has inspired us—and hopefully you too—to explore the American heartland by boat. Upon finishing their journey, DeBacco shared some interesting numbers with us:
Total days to complete the loop: 330
Different ports visited: 105
Miles traveled: 7,930
Days on the hook: 14
Days at transient slips: 316
Hours on engines to complete loop: 525
Oil Changes: 3
DeBacco also shared a breakdown of expenses. The total costs of the loop compared to what they made by renting their home out on Air BnB and VRBO “all turned out pretty even.” Looking at his images of wild horses and pigs, rural anchorages and city slips alike, we have to respectfully disagree. The couple wound up on the better end of the deal, and inspired countless Power & -Motoryacht readers along the way. What was your excuse for not going again? —D.H.
