Mochi’s 74 Dolphin Cruiser redefines lobster boats to add European élan.

Downeast tradition combined with a dash of European pizazz.

Mochi Craft says its 74 Dolphin Cruiser was inspired by traditional Downeast lobster boats, but she looks like no lobster boat I’ve ever seen. Those vessels usually combine utilitarian New England roots with an understated elegance, but the 74-foot Dolphin looks—well, sexy.

This latest Mochi replaces the MaxiDolphin 74, and shows off several new features in her interior and exterior design. If her profile looks different, it’s because Mochi Craft extended the flying bridge to cover almost the entire aft cockpit. The helm station is in the middle of the 269 square feet of space up top and has a small arch extending from the seating base that sports the radome and antennas. Forward of this is a sizable dinette, with additional seating in front of the helm console that creates a circular conversation pit. Sun worshippers will find a home on the large sunpad aft, just behind the ladder leading down to the cockpit.

From the pilothouse helm, the captain will enjoy an unobstructed view as the windshield has no mullions. The standard HD radar, integrated navigation, and Gi8 monitoring system will further simplify his duties. Aft of the helm station, the galley is to port, cordoned off from the starboard dining area by a wall and sliding door. A separate staircase leads from the galley to the crew quarters below, while a step down from the dining area takes you to the saloon, which features opposing leather couches, a leather chair and coffee table, and a corner table. The retractable flat-panel TV can be hidden from view.

The full-beam master suite

Below decks, the full-beam master suite sits amidships and affords 226 square feet of relaxation space. Guests won’t be lacking for comfort either, as the VIP cabin nestled into the bow has a double bed and en suite head. Two additional en suite guest cabins, one with a single bed and the other with twins, round out the accommodations.

Powered with twin 1,550-hp MAN diesels, the 74 Dolphin should cruise at 28 knots (32 mph), with a top end of 31.5 knots (36 mph). At cruise, her projected range is 305 nautical miles, and she’ll be turning heads every one of them.
