A Holocaust Rescue Boat

How a Danish fishing boat—and others like it—helped to rescue Jews during the Holocaust.

Senior Editor Shane Scott sits down with Florida Holocaust Museum Deputy Director Erin Blankenship to discuss the acquisition of one of the very few remaining boats that represent the history of Holocaust survival in Denmark. Thor, an 80-year-old fishing vessel was one of several boats used over the course of three weeks to smuggle Danish Jews out of Denmark and into the neutral territory of Sweden, before the Germans could come and capture them. Blankenship shares the history of Thor and boats like it, as well as the story of how they found and brought her all the way to Florida to become the newest exhibit in the Florida Holocaust Museum.
