Horizon RP110

Power & Motoryacht's first look at the Horizon 110-foot Raised Pilothouse.

The Horizon RP110 Andrea VI will debut stateside at the 2014 Palm Beach International Boat Show, and if initial reports from Horizon are true, then the boat is sure to be one of the more talked about builds on display.

With a, shall we say, Rubenesque, beam of 25 feet, the RP110 follows in the Horizon tradition of building sturdy boats that ride like ships, and also have loads of onboard living space. A good deal of this yacht’s expectedly smooth performance will be due to the work done on her by the esteemed designers over at Donald L. Blount and Associates, who worked with Horizon’s in-house team for over two years to perfect the RP110’s double-chined hull. That hull should provide low-resistance and thus good-efficiency at slow speeds without sacrificing stability near the boat’s top-end speed of 22 knots, or at her sporty 18-knot cruise. Those relatively jaunty numbers are thanks to big-time engines, namely twin 1,900-horsepower Caterpillar C32 ACERTs pounding away in the ER. Meanwhile, the hull’s unusually shallow draft of just six feet means she’ll be able to cruise even the skinny waters common in some of North America’s most desirable cruising destinations without much trouble. And that’s not a statement you can make about every 110-footer on the market.Exterior styling was done by J.C. Espinosa, and he did a good job, in my opinion. The Andrea VI’s lines are sleek, and the dark visor adorning her raised pilothouse is rather striking.

Look for her to make her debut next year, and make sure you check her out. That way, you’ll be able to say something intelligent when someone inevitably brings her up at whatever soirée you’re planning to attend after the docks close to the public.
