Viking Sanlorenzo SD92

It was just last year that the Sanlorenzo 88 debuted, the first in a line of custom yachts offered through an alliance between New Jersey-based Viking Yachts and Sanlorenzo, located in Viareggio, Italy. This fall the second model, the SD92, is slated to debut. Unlike the 88, which has a hard-chine planing hull and speeds in the mid- to upper-20-knot range, the SD92 has a semidisplacement hull form that’s efficient yet delivers a good turn of speed. Modest 1,015-hp diesel inboards permit a cruising range of more than 1,000 nautical miles at 16 knots, putting distant cruising destinations within reach. And with a midsize fishing boat in tow, the SD92 could become the mothership for adventures in remote fishing and diving areas.

The key to this versatility and efficiency is a hull form with a fine entry and rounded chine sections forward, transitioning into wider, flatter sections aft. The fine forward sections let the hull slip through the water with minimum drag, while the flatter aft sections provide lift that lets her run efficiently at more than her hull speed (about 12 knots) without squatting at the stern. Propeller pockets flatten her shaft angle while reducing draft to a modest six feet. Running gear is protected by a deep centerline skeg.

Configured for entertaining, her exterior layout should adapt to a variety of needs. A large hardtop shades her helm, an open bar, and a dining table aft of a stately funnel that dominates the bridge deck. Aft on the bridge is a sundeck rimmed by a tall railing (rather than a bulwark) so sunbathers can better enjoy the view and breezes. Her aft deck has a more protected alfresco area, with steps on either side leading down to the swim platform, while her transom offers a passarelle, tender, and PWC garage.
Her four generous staterooms include a master on the main deck and a full-beam VIP on the lower deck, both with customizable interiors.
