Longtime marine photographer and writer Tom Serio has worked closely with Marlow for many years and allowed us to share his remembrance.
“It’s not important how he died, it’s more important to know how he lived. With salt in his veins from a very young age, he set the stage and set the bar, crafting some of the most gorgeous and seaworthy yachts to ply the oceans. His demands for perfection were high, with each new yacht better than the previous. With his name on each yacht, you expected the best.
I had the great fortune to sit with David on many occasions, from interviewing him at his yard in Florida under a big banyan tree, to enjoying cocktails at the hotel bar during many Fort Lauderdale International Boat Shows. He would invite me over with a hearty handshake and generous smile, telling tales of high seas adventures, scoundrels he came across and … insight into how he built his yachts and why he does the things he does. We had some heady chats. Thank you, David. Your team will take the con from here.”
Marlow Sales Director Eric Gervais had this to say about the marine industry icon:
“David Marlow was a maritime titan whose passion for yachting profoundly impacted everyone at Marlow. His unwavering dedication to excellence in yacht design inspired countless individuals and deepened our appreciation for the beauty and science of yachting. We are grateful for the time we shared with him, as he generously imparted his knowledge and guided us through the intricacies of the industry, skillfully blending tradition with modernity to redefine luxury cruising. As we navigate our journeys ahead, we will carry his lessons in our hearts, honoring his legacy and striving to emulate his passion and dedication. Smooth sailing, David; your influence will forever shape our path. Thank you for teaching us how to sail.”
