Meet Satauria, a 2002 Kadey-Krogen 58 with a bright future ahead of her.

Satauria has recently undergone a transformation thanks to her new owners,
Scott and Teri Miller, who plan to rename her Miller Time and cruise the boat for extended periods.

The Millers plan to make the most of Miller Time with a fresh paint job, a helm electronics refit, and a renewed interior.

Perhaps most important to the plan, the onboard office,
which Scott hopes to use extensively to continue working full time.

The old helm had some great components,
including a standalone JRC radar on the far-right panel that still worked just fine.

Kadey-Krogen 58 Refit

The old open-array radar unit on the mast would have to be replaced as well.

Kadey-Krogen 58 Refit

The Kadey-Krogen is a real cruising boat with features like a Portuguese bridge
that make her safer to operate.

She was placed on the hard at Lauderdale Marine Center.

Luu Marine set to the painting project while
Voyager Maritime Alliance Group took on the various electronics challenges.

Prepping the deck for painting on a 58-footer means removing a lot of hardware.

Kadey-Krogen 58 Refit

The old helm had to come apart.

Kadey-Krogen 58 Refit

There’s nothing like a clean slate. Miller wanted the Garmin GPSMAP 8622 displays but the panel on the helm wasn’t quite large enough, so he ended up with 8617 units.

Setting up a NMEA 2000 network on the boat means all components are linked and work together to share data.

This clean seamanlike shows the Wave Wi-Fi and Cradle Point units that will help to deliver broadband data to the boat, through cellular and Wi-Fi sources.

Kadey-Krogen 58 Refit

Of course, there are a few cables the installers need to track, and labeling sure helps.

Kadey-Krogen 58 Refit

Painting and electronics refits can go hand in hand in some respects.
The flying-bridge helm components are masked off.

Kadey-Krogen 58 Refit

It’s a good time to check out and probably upgrade the transducer for the sounder as well.

Kadey-Krogen 58 Refit

Steve Delany at Voyager Maritime Alliance Group carefully documented the placement of the old antennas on Satauria.

Kadey-Krogen 58 Refit

Then Delany mapped out a plan for the new antenna array on the pilothouse roof of Miller Time.

Kadey-Krogen 58 Refit

Having a plan carefully mapped out means the right size holes get drilled or cut and sealed properly the first time.

Kadey-Krogen 58 Refit

The antenna project also discovered some delamination on the hardtop that was fixed.

Kadey-Krogen 58 Refit

The results speak for themselves: Everything in its place.

Kadey-Krogen 58 Refit

The new helm is looking good as well, including a 12-inch iPad Pro, set where the standalone radar used to be, and that can be taken anywhere around the boat.

Kadey-Krogen 58 Refit

This helm is ready to cruise with a smooth flow of onboard data.

Kadey-Krogen 58 Refit

And the new Garmin radar is ready for action.

Kadey-Krogen 58 Refit

Miller Time is open for business, and for the Miller’s cruising pleasure.
