Cooperstown has baseball. Cleveland has rock ’n’ roll. If Pat Sullivan has her way, Annapolis will soon have its own hall of fame—for nautical pets. The longtime lover of onboard animals is leading the charge to build the nation’s first-ever “Museum of Maritime Pets.” Sullivan’s virtual museum launched in 2006, and now she’s raising funds for a permanent home. Our favorite honoree is Sinbad (shown), the renowned World War II-era mutt who served aboard the Coast Guard cutter Campbell and survived an intense open-sea battle with a German submarine.
