Dan’s First Impression: Pearl is a boutique builder headquartered in the U.K., with the actual building taking place in Xiamen, China. While Power & Motoryacht has covered a number of Pearls in the past, the builder has not yet achieved status as a household name, despite being worthy of the title.
My first of two main takeaways on this model was how well she ran in a choppy, confused Bay of Cannes. It was seriously confidence-inspiring.
The second was the interior. First, it was gorgeous; it felt as if I were stepping into a modern-yet-comfortable Mediterranean villa. The below-deck layout was really unique, which is not something I say much these days. Skip ahead to 2:09 in the above video and you’ll see what I mean.
My only criticism from my time aboard was that the interior seemed to favor aesthetics over the practicalities of running offshore; the installation of additional grabrails would go a long way aboard the 73.
Still, I think this boat will help the brand to expand into the U.S. mainstream—and Gulf Stream.
