Building a New Boating Destination

We travelled to Mexico’s Baja Peninsula to scope out an up-and-coming Four Seasons resort and deep-water marina that might just change the West Coast cruising game.

Costa Palmas

Located on the Southeast corner of the Baja California Peninsula, Costa Palmas will be home to a 250-slip deep water, superyacht-friendly marina. Should you want to get off the boat for a few days, the resort boasts great bungalows on the beach.

Costa Palmas

Bike riding on the beach: Just one of the many activities offered by the resort.
There’s also kayaking, jet skiing, sailing, and much more.

Costa Palmas

“Fat Boy” bikes allow you to cruise the white-sand beaches and get a great workout.

Costa Palmas

And of course, a cruise south of the border wouldn’t be complete with a couple (or more) margaritas.

Costa Palmas

The Four Seasons has earned a reputation for offering world-class dinning; Costa Palmas doesn’t disappoint.
Fresh ingredients prepared traditionally creates quite the culinary experience.

Costa Palmas

See what I mean?

Costa Palmas

The bow of a Hinckley picnic boat points out to the Sea of Cortez and an off-the-beaten-path cruising ground.

Costa Palmas

A Sunseeker 30m Yacht currently calls Costa Palmas home.
When the superyacht portion of the marina is complete in 2018, she’ll be in good company.

Costa Palmas

Just feet from the marina you’ll find fisherman selling live bait.
For just a couple bucks you’ll have everything you need to chase big game.

Costa Palmas

Tuna, dolphin or marlin … you never know what the Sea of Cortez might offer up.

Costa Palmas

Close proximity to world-class fishing grounds means you can get out more often.
And should you not catch anything one morning, head back to shore, play a few holes and try again later.

Costa Palmas

Or if you prefer to leave your boat tied up, there are plenty of charter options at Costa Palmas.

Costa Palmas

Mountains reaching out to touch the sea: that’s not something you see everyday.

Costa Palmas

Speaking of sea life, keep an eye out for whales and sea lions.
If you’re feeling adventurous you can swim with the sea lions.

Costa Palmas

Traditional wooden fishing boat or a cutting-edge sportfisherman:
There’s no wrong way to enjoy getting on the water on Los Cabos.

Costa Palmas

Just a glimpse at what type of amenities will be offered on the 1,000 acre Costa Palmas property.

Costa Palmas

This shot was taken during what is known as the windy season, which of course is a relative term.
But normally, we’re told the Sea of Cortez is flat as a lake.

Costa Palmas

Costa Palmas is exotic by land, but you can’t beat the view from the water.

Costa Palmas

Among the plethora of physical activities offered to those staying at the marina is
incredible hiking, with beginner and advanced trails leading to some impressive waterfalls.

For more on Costa Palmas and the cruising/fishing opportunities this marina opens up,
stay tuned to a future issue of Power & Motoryacht.

One of the lucky ones who was born into boating, Dan grew up cruising aboard his family’s 33 Egg Harbor. Marinas and boatyards served as summer school and the foundation for a career on the water. When not chasing stories for Power & Motoryacht magazine he can be found cruising Long Island Sound with his wife, sons, and faithful (furry) first mate Salty.
