Staying aboard Shanghai Baby in our home harbor was a good chance to practice fender knots, get comfortable with the interior layout, and try cooking before doing it in a seaway.

The Island Pilot’s maneuverability and sightlines compared well to the many vessels we’ve scooched around tight Camden Harbor over the years.

On the long leg of our cruise, we first enjoyed a landless sunset.

Thick fog and fishing boats awaited when we arrived in Fisher’s Island Sound.

It was hard not to hit the throttles as we left Maine, but maintaining near-idle speed all the way to Cuttyhunk proved gentle on both boat and crew.
