Nothing funny here as the body count for the Costa Concordia cruise ship wreck off of Tuscany continues to rise. But this transcript from Reuters between the Italian Coast Guard and Captain Francesco Schettino—who allegedly committed a bunch of big-time no-no’s before and after running aground—makes for compelling reading. The Coast Guard officer, it seems like, is at once pleading with him and demanding him to go back to the ship as it partially sank and he was in a lifeboat. The captain’s reluctance is hard to understand. More to come on this story I’m sure, as it won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.
