Meet Saxdor Yachts.

From the drawing board of Sakari Mattila, the designer and principal who helped bring life to Axopar, XO Boats and others, comes a new line of craft: Saxdor Yachts. We just learned that the first model the company is launching is called the Saxdor 200 Sport. Power for this sporty tender will range from a single 100- to 175-hp Merc with the largest power option lending the craft a top speed beyond 45 knots, according to the manufacturer.

At first glance, this 1,500-pound tender-meets-PWC looks like a fun craft to blast around in on bluebird summer days. Digging into this project more reveals that Mattila has tapped J&J Design to develop a true double-stepped hull and tooling. (Traditional PWC builders, take notice!)

The standard model is built around a triple jockey (PWC-style) seating configuration, but there are a multitude of options from which owners can choose. From bench seating to a T-top and twin 7- or 9-inch MFDs—even a canvas enclosure in the bow—it’s one of the more versatile tenders we’ve seen recently. We’re told the company is also experimenting with jet-drive propulsion, which would make it safer for watersport use.

“The concept behind Saxdor Yachts is to make the next generation of affordable boats [approx. $25,000 base],” says Mattila. “These are premium craft with modern styling and an affordable price that are fitted with the latest technology.”

The first 200 Sports are said to become available later this month with an official world-wide debut to take place at the 2020 Cannes show.

A recently launched website teases models up to 40 feet and ambitions to stretch beyond that. If history has taught us anything, Mattila and this new brand are worth keeping a lookout for.
