Kadey-Krogen 40th Anniversary Rendezvous

The Krogen faithful descended on Newport, RI to ring in the special birthday in style.

Kadey-Krogen Turns the Big 4-0

Forty years ago Star Wars opened in theaters, the Apple II went on sale, Jimmy Carter was elected president, and a company called Kadey-Krogen Yachts was born.

To celebrate the milestone anniversary the builder hosted its largest rendezvous to date in Newport, Rhode Island.

Nearly 40 Kadey-Krogens from around the country—no, the world—descended on the city by the sea for a weekend filled with 12-meter-sailboat racing, wining, dining, and dancing.

The atmosphere of the event can only be compared to a family reunion. Owners joked, talked shop, and swapped stories like old friends. “Forty deserves respect,” says Director of Marketing and Public Relations Jennifer Burkett. “Whether it’s the number of candles on your cake, or pounds lost, I believe achievements with the increment of 40 should receive some applause.” And why not? Throughout the brand’s four productive decades the company has built more than 610 yachts ranging from 36 to 58 feet.

At the conclusion of the rendezvous, a number of boats in the fleet were bound for Maine.
They would be doing so in true Kadey-Krogen fashion-— going together, as a family.

One of the lucky ones who was born into boating, Dan grew up cruising aboard his family’s 33 Egg Harbor. Marinas and boatyards served as summer school and the foundation for a career on the water. When not chasing stories for Power & Motoryacht magazine he can be found cruising Long Island Sound with his wife, sons, and faithful (furry) first mate Salty.
