We tracked down the inside scoop on what boatbuilders are up to next.

Innovative Italian builder Wider Yachts has been busy as of late. I recently spoke to Darren Datson, president of Wider USA, about the company’s idea for a diesel-electric powered 125. “The 120- to 140-foot range is hot right now so we’re really trying to capitalize on that,” he says. “Right now we have three different American buyers interested in this project, and we’re aiming to start construction on the first one by the end of the year. It’s fun for us, because we’re passionate about figuring out what makes the American buyer tick, and then designing a boat around that.”
