Calling all Parrot Heads. If you’ve got a hankering for some continental drifting, DoubleYou, the Cheoy Lee expedition yacht that Jimmy Buffett commissioned back in 1999, is about to go up for auction. She has a direct connection to Power & Motoryacht, too. Originally christened Continental Drifter II, the 90-footer was designed by legendary naval architect Tom Fexas. And when we say legendary, we mean it: The hilariously irreverent Fexas worked as a writer and editor for Power & Motoryacht from 1985 clear to 2003. Every bit Fexas’ match in larger-than-life living and humor, Buffett had a hand in working with Fexas on every aspect of the build.
The tri-deck explorer was completely refitted in 2020 and is engineered for long-distance cruising with a 4,300-nautical-mile range. She’s powered by twin 600-horsepower Caterpillars that give a cruising speed of 10-11 knots and a top end of 14. Among her notable design features are a Portuguese bridge with side doors leading to a bow crow’s nest and a miniature keel for added stability.
DoubleYou can sleep up to nine guests across four staterooms, each with a head en suite. The layout consists of a full-beam master suite, a full-beam VIP cabin, a twin stateroom, and another cabin with a twin berth plus a Pullman. The interior, finished with a neutral palette throughout, also holds quarters for a crew of four. In short, she’s a serious boat with serious chops.

The 2020 refit updated the vessel with modern amenities: The galley is equipped with a Teka stove and oven, a GVA deep freezer, and a Samsung two-door fridge/freezer. Topside, two cranes on deck manage three tenders: including a Sea-Doo GTX-IDF. Two 40kW Northern Lights generators support all of DoubleYou’s techincal systems. A 21-foot, 7-inch beam make way for all the accommodations, toys, and amenities that lend her the feel of a veritable floating penthouse—which displaces 131 tons.
