If you’re heading to the Cannes Yachting Festival this September, we’d highly recommend a stop off to visit Silent Yachts’ new SY80. This just-floated company flagship will make its premiere at the show and it looks to be quite the techno tour de force. Built at the expansive Silent factory in Fano, Italy the SY80 will bear a solar array capable of producing up to 22.4 kWp of full-sun electricity that will be stored in a massive 696 kWh battery bank. (For comparison, a long range Ford F150 Lightning has a 131 kWh battery pack). She’ll cruise between 7 and 8 knots topping out around 12 knots—all on electrons.

The yacht will come in three layout options: two-deck, three-deck open and three-deck closed—with various options for locations of master and guest suites-and sleeping accommodations for up to 12.

The two-deck SY80 due to appear in Cannes has already been sold. It looks to offer huge views from a vast salon, a full-beam master suite with four guest cabins – including a VIP. It’s laden with entertaining spaces, offers a full view helm and there’s not only a fully enclosed garage off the stern but also one in the starboard sponson that should hold gobs of Seabobs, snorkel gear and SUP’s.

Despite being devoted to non-combustion propulsion (yes, you can get a diesel range-extending engine), Silent has recently been firing on all cylinders. Despite nearly going bankrupt in 2024, new ownership overseen by CEO Fabrizio Iarrera appears to be turning things around. They’re reporting strong orders recently, including a pair of three-deck SY80s. We plan on stepping aboard the SY80 in Cannes and will, of course, report back…
