● The McMurdo SmartFind M5 AIS Class A is a transponder that provides name and navigation data from other vessels and can be integrated with a variety of chartplotters and networked systems, including a PC system using the PC AIS viewer included with the unit.
● McMurdo touts this system as flexible and easy to install, and the unit incorporates features such as man overboard and search-and-rescue transponder. An on-screen indicator and internal buzzer sound when AIS SART and MOB signals are received.
● While the unit can depict AIS targets in a radar view and on networked chartplotters, it also offers an embedded coastline map that plots AIS targets in a chart view on its dedicated screen.
