Offshore Systems Pump Control and Tank Display
As discussed in “Know the Flow“, flow-based fuel management renders a tank gauge mainly useful for double-checking consumption and avoiding a tank overfilling spill. But Offshore Systems’ new Fuel Transfer Control offers some sophisticated management to those vessels set up with day tanks. The $445 device not only lets you monitor that critical tank and start a transfer from the main supply when needed, but will automatically stop the pump when the day tank becomes 95 percent full. The control’s data input is via NMEA 2000, which means it’s easy to install wherever you want it and works nicely with Offshore’s existing line of ultrasonic N2K tank-level sensors (or N2K level data provided by any other sensor). Note, though, that the pump itself is not being controlled over the N2K backbone, but that sort of thing will happen once the N2K switching gear under development actually get to market. Note, too, Offshore’s new multitank display, which costs $995 but does include software that can calibrate Offshore sensors for irregularly shaped tanks.
