In today’s world of Amazon’s next-day delivery, people are becoming harder and harder to shop for. For the most part, if we really want something, we can have it delivered to our doorstep—oftentimes within hours. And boaters? Forget it. We already have access to the world’s best pastime; what else do we need?

Sea Bold Portraits owner Sandy Giameo might have just cracked the code and created something boaters everywhere would love: a custom-drawn portrait of your (current, former or dream) boat. Full disclosure: Giameo reached out to me after reading my Logbook column, “Good-Bye, Old Friend,” and offered to create a custom print of the boat as shown in the magazine. As with anyone who reaches out to me through social media, I was skeptical at first—but I needn’t have been. A tour de force of positive energy and passion, her team of artists brought the old family Egg Harbor to life in a brilliant fashion.

When we met in person at the Palm Beach boat show, she handed me the stunning artwork in a custom frame of my choosing. She also gifted me note cards featuring the artwork on the front—another very thoughtful gesture that I know boaters everywhere would appreciate. She showed me other pieces of art the company had created, including superyachts that were more fitting for the Palm Beach show.

Besides creating artwork for individual boaters, Giameo is teaming up with renowned nautical photographer (whose work has appeared here in Power & Motoryacht) Tom Serio, to offer a unique brokerage package. With this package, brokers can gift a print from Giameo and a photo from Serio to the new boat owner upon the sale of a yacht. It’s all about the personal touch in the boat business.

Speaking of personal touches, I was able to pass the hand-drawn art on to my parents after the show. It brought my mom to tears (sorry, Mom, but it doesn’t take too much), and my dad later said, “It will keep the memories of some great summers alive.”

It’s often said that a picture is worth a thousand words. As a writer, I sometimes challenge that sentiment, but when it comes to Giameo’s artwork, there’s no argument. When I now see this print hanging in my parents’ house, I can smell the sea, hear the rumble of her diesels, and feel her teak decks beneath my feet. Forget a thousand words—this print brings back a novel’s worth of memories.
