Southeastern Canada is definitely an off-the-beaten-course destination, one that bursts with harbors and history from the border of Maine up to Newfoundland and beyond. In other, more popular cruising destinations like the Caribbean and the Mediterranean, you might cruise by in a sleek new motoryacht to enflame the envy of everyone ashore. Fine food and service is part of the charter package aboard Fredrikstad.

The main saloon includes both dining and sitting areas.

It’s hard to imagine such elegant meals coming out of this small of a galley.

The accommodations for guests are comfortable, and they are decorated in keeping with the boat’s strong maritime history.

Note the colorful line wrapped around the bedpost – it’s used as a decorative element and to soften the surface, should someone bump into it.

Fredrikstad’s helm still has a classic atmosphere, though the instrumentation here is all modernized.

To the uninformed Freddie still looks like a workboat – a good thing for charterers who covet privacy.

Chasing History
