A Boat Is Born, Part III Gallery

It's been about nine months since the design process for the 64-foot Makaira was started. While both the designers at Applied Concepts Unleashed and the builder's team have enjoyed the exchange of ideas that both parties feel will result in the next-generation sportfisherman, it's now time for the plan to become a real boat.

<p>This high-tech router accomplishes two goals: It reduces overall build time and designs to very tight tolerances. In the end, some work was done by hand. The boat's hull was fine-tuned with a two-man longboard and a whole lot of elbow grease.</p>

Makaira’s team used the semistructural jig here to make the plug that would be used to make this sportfisherman’s hull mold.

Looks like this Makaira’s going to have some serious flare.
